Designing a logo?
Aside from the obvious things like business name etc. here's a run down of questions I tend to ask before I even put pen to paper. It's important to work out what the customer likes in a logo and their preferred graphic style.
What colours would you like me to avoid?
As much as it's important to find out what colours the customer would like with their logo it's key save time working out what they want to avoid. Having both will give you a better idea of the schemes they prefer.
Please specify at least three logos, brands or styles you like.
Retrieving this from the customer will provide you with a vital insight into the style they are looking for.
What style do you prefer?
Give the customer options here don't jus leave it at that. For example give them a list of styles to choose from. Minimalist, funky, vintage, retro, earthy, sophisticated to name a few. Forcing them to choose one you have provided will help narrow down what they have in their mind.
What will the logo include?
Will the logo just be the company name, company initials, an icon or a combination of them. Narrowing down their answers to a few basic guidelines is key to creating something they will be happy with after the first draft.
